MANUEL C. SOTO COMMANDER CHAPTER 1836 SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
Febrary 2011 NEWSLETTER
We are less than a month away from our Founder’s Day Dinner and if you have not RSVPed Adjutant Bill Johnson, please do so. A menu was emailed earlier to everyone by Patriot Johnson listing the choices of menu items. Please indicate what you and your guest would like to be served so we can be prepared for the dinner. On our February 3rd meeting we will have a setting chart so that you can select your table. The Executive Board decided this was the easiest way for setting arrangements. In case you were not aware, Purple Heart members can now park in most city own parking garages at no cost. The AT&T Center is a different story, if you plan to attend the Rodeo you must still pay for your parking. We can thank Tony Roman and Jim Ramsey for getting us the city parking. I still need your support with attendance at Purple Heart Ceremonies at the Family Warrior Support Center. We also need to show our colors at the homeless Veterans funerals. These two events only require our presence there is no other commitment. Part of the Senior Staff will be attending a Veteran Summit in Austin January 31. There will be every State level Veteran Organizations that will be providing knowledgeable information that should benefit our chapter. We will brief the Chapter on our February meeting, please plan to attend.

We are upon that time of the year that the plans for our next set of Officers for the Chapter are in the works. At the 4 February meeting I will be asking for 3 volunteers to be in the nomination committee. There are a few patriots that I believe are willing to step up to the plate and keep the chapter going. Being the largest and certainly one of the most active chapter in the United States we will need all of the help we can get. The chapter has received the donation from Haven Behavioral Healthcare for approximately $26,000. These funds cover the cost of the Purple Heart Trail from Port Isabel to San Antonio. All of this is accomplishment in great part due to the efforts of Tony Roman’s work with the city, Bill Crumlett’ s work with the state and Jim Ramsey’s work with Haven Behavioral Health. The chapter is truly blessed with these patriots. The chapter has taken care of its highway in south Texas. There is more to be done on I40 in North Texas. That will be taken care of by chapters in that region. There will be a ceremony at the I40 site which will be a media event with Haven Behavioral Health attending. When details are available I will notify the chapter patriots. We intend to make our presence known. In the near future I am required to submit a number of reports to Department and National. These reports require an enormous amount of information. All patriots who have volunteered and been active need to be prepared to give the VAVS, ECTC, Coffee Cart, Viola and any other details on hours/man-hours spent. This information shows National how active we really are.
